The Ugly Duckling is a family-run business specialising in bespoke hand-painted cabinetry.

Based in Cheshire and working nationwide, we follow a structured multi-stage preparation and hand-painting process designed specifically for cabinetry.

From traditional in-frame kitchens to previously painted, high-gloss and laminated kitchens, each project is carefully prepared, primed and professionally finished using premium systems to achieve a flawless, long-lasting result built for everyday living.

With over 12 years of experience, our work includes traditional in-frame kitchens crafted by skilled cabinetmakers and high-quality fitted cabinetry, delivering a durable, beautifully executed finish that complements the original craftsmanship of the space.

Alongside our cabinetry work, we are also Granite & Stone Spray Specialists, offering our professional Spray Granite system for worktops, tiles and flooring. This resin-based, stone-effect finish is fully waterproof, heat-resistant and seamlessly applied over existing surfaces, providing a practical and high-quality alternative to replacement.

Every project begins with a clear walkthrough of what to expect. We take the time to explain each stage before carefully setting up our drying systems and preparation area.

Doors and hardware are removed methodically, allowing full access to the kitchen framework and ensuring every surface can be properly prepared and finished - not just the obvious areas.

Any surface damage is repaired and any compromised laminate is removed. All cabinetry is thoroughly degreased and mechanically sanded using our dust-controlled system, creating a stable, smooth foundation ready for paint.

Every visible element is hand-painted - from door fronts and backs to internal framework, end panels and plinths. We apply specialist adhesion primers followed by durable topcoats, building a finish specifically designed for cabinetry and everyday use.

Once fully cured, your kitchen is carefully reassembled with precision and attention to detail.
